One-Off Sebring Full-Course Time Trials and TNiA Weekend Ahead
One-Off Sebring Full-Course Time Trials and TNiA Weekend Ahead
Only about a week ago, some of the greatest road racers from around the globe gathered at Sebring International Raceway in Florida to do battle at the 70th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Now, everyday citizens have the extraordinary chance to traverse the same legendary, full circuit April 1-3 during a very special event for the Tire Rack Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty (TTNT) participants, as well as Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack (TNiA) fans.
John Hunter, SCCA’s National Time Trials Manager, said the shot to conduct a Time Trials National Tour and Track Night in America weekend at Sebring was a stroke of luck. The venue has a packed calendar, partially because it’s a place favored by pro race teams for testing.
“When this opportunity came to our attention, we knew we had to scoop it up,” Hunter said. “This will be the very first run for the Time Trials National Tour at Sebring, and perhaps the first-ever Time Trials event on the full course. Honestly, we can’t guarantee this will ever happen again. No matter where you are in North America, if you’ve ever wanted to drive the full course at Sebring, this is your rare chance. And the amount of track time available those three days makes Sebring the place to be the first weekend of April for any Time Trials or Track Event enthusiast.”
Sebring International Raceway may be America’s oldest road racing track, with more than seven decades of storied history. The legendary 3.74-mile, 17-turn circuit evolved from Hendricks Field, a World War II airbase used to train B-17 combat crews. Over the years, countless stars from the sports car world have turned some of their most pivotal laps at the venue.
Nailing a fast lap at the challenging circuit isn’t easy, but check the in-car video below from SCCA’s driver coaching partner Blayze (previously Racers360) to gain some important pointers.
Weekend Plans for TTNT
Sebring will see a “special” event schedule for TTNT entrants. Friday will consist of three 20-minute practice sessions on the full course for all TTNT run groups, and a fourth round of 20-minute practice on the full course happens Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon will then have two separate 15-minute TrackAttack sessions on the full course, which will be timed for scoring purposes. And once on-track activities end Saturday afternoon, Hagerty Social Dinner festivities begin – which never disappoint.
SCCA’s special TrackSprint feature will be part of the Sebring weekend, taking place Sunday morning for all TTNT run groups. Sunday afternoon will then see two full-course TrackAttack sessions of 15 minutes each. The weekend then closes with a KONI Podium Celebration.
The precise schedule is being finalized. But with so much time offered on Sebring’s full circuit, it’s no surprise that slots are filling up quickly for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Learn more about this incredibly special outing and register today through the link below.
Track Night Experience at Sebring
A decade ago, there was almost no chance you and your everyday road car could get out on the full Sebring International Raceway circuit. But thanks to SCCA’s Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack, you can do just that!
TNiA is a non-competitive, no-stress, entertaining, easy and inexpensive way for nearly anyone who loves cars or motorsports to get on track. No previous experience is required, but you do need a valid driver’s license, an approved helmet and a street car in good working condition. TTNT attendees can also sign up for TNiA segments to gain added track time at Sebring, or perhaps “loan” vehicles to crew/friends to experience the Sebring full course for themselves.
TNiA segments will occur at various times during the April 1-3 weekend at Sebring. Check the options and register today by clicking the link below.
Nothin’ But Lap Records for Sebring
Because the Time Trials National Tour has never run at Sebring, every TTNT class in attendance will set a new record at the circuit. But to get an idea of what a good “time” could be, below are a few Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour race lap records currently in place for the same layout being used by TTNT:
Super Touring Lite – 2:26.348, Danny Steyn (NC Mazda Miata)
Spec Miata – 2:28.794, Todd Buras (NB Mazda Miata)
Touring 4 – 2:32.354, Don Knowles (Mazda RX-8)
B-Spec – 2:46.563, Tony Roma (Chevy Sonic)
