Thursday TTN Notebook: It's a Holley-Day at Time Trials Nationals

Thursday TTN Notebook: It's a Holley-Day at Time Trials Nationals

It’s time… the planning, the hoping, and the possibilities are now less abstract and more concrete, as today is the first official day of the 2023 SCCA® Tire Rack Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty.

And what a day it is. Thursday is the all-important practice day included in every registration, the chance to learn the 3.15-mile NCM Motorsports Park layout. Why so important? Because starting Friday, every session counts!

Holley Days

Thursday at Time Trials Nationals has become one of the greatest days of the year for the fastest Time Trials cars and drivers in the country, and it’s all thanks to Holley Performance Products.

Dubbed an official SCCA “Holley Day” several years ago, Holley has provided SCCA Time Trials participants with a practice day at no additional charge. The Thursday practice day opens up the weekend to a few different strategies. Some arrived on Wednesday night, got set up, went through tech and registration and hit the ground with the first session on Thursday morning at 8:50 a.m. CT. Others, especially those more local to Bowling Green, hit the road early on Thursday morning, arriving in time to get set up and make the afternoon sessions. There are no wrong answers – only right answers!

And 8:50 a.m. Central Time, under cool but sunny skies (hello, horsepower!), Indianapolis’ Dallas Reed rolled his Unlimited 1-classed Mazda RX-8 onto the track to officially open the event as the first car on track, where he promptly set the best time of the opening session in 2:07.077.

Getting Social

Holley’s contributions don’t stop when the track goes cold on Thursday afternoon, and neither does the event.

For the second year in a row, the Holley Expo shifts into high gear on-site in the evening. The Expo is an opportunity to kick back, relax, get to know fellow competitors and catch up with old friends. All the while, a car show of competition and street cars, a cook out, and a general festival atmosphere dot the paddock, making it the perfect opportunity for local friends, family and car enthusiasts to see what SCCA Time Trials is all about.

And the good folks at Holley are “one of us” – car enthusiasts through and through and have been for more than a century. Holley’s family of products stretches further than you may even realize, including top brands like MSD, Flowmaster, Hurst, Accel and many more. If you’d like to see more about the industry’s leading offering of enthusiast-driven products to deliver robust, complete performance solutions for builders, racers, and drivers, visit Holley Performance Products on their web home here.

Fri-Yay

If Thursday is truly a “Holley Day” away from home, Friday is where things get serious – or at least as serious as they get at Time Trials Nationals.

The fun of the event is that everyone has a different goal – it may be to win the class, or fastest time of day, or just to beat your time from a year ago or the driver who barely edged you out last time.

Either way, every driver gets three chances to set their quickest time around the full track on Friday – and that’s the first of three scores that will go into the final tally at the conclusion of the event.

But you don’t have to wait until the end of the weekend to see how everyone is doing. Follow along with live timing, live audio on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and maybe a surprise or two – all from the comfort of the Time Trials main page at TimeTrials.SCCA.com.
