Time Attack Challenge Drivers Smash Track Records at Road America
Time Attack Challenge Drivers Smash Track Records at Road America

The second stop of the season for the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge series came April 12-13 at Road America, just south of Elkhart Lake, WI. This event saw drivers compete on the same circuit that hosts not only a slew of professional racing series, but is also the current home of the SCCA National Championship Runoffs®. What that means is Time Attack drivers had their hands full tackling such famous turns as the Carousel, the Kink, and Canada Corner while vying for top times in their class or simply their personal best.
The event witnessed remarkable performances across the board, with drivers setting new track records along the way. With two straight days on the famed 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit, a contingent of newcomers and Time Attack vets pushed themselves and their cars to the limit.
So how’d they do?
Broken Records
Not to sound like a broken record, but this event at the National Park of Speed saw records broken. We expected several of those records to fall – but maybe not quite this many. A whopping 12 class records were lowered.
Here are the new record holders, along with their respective classes and lap times:
- Max 1: Steve Forrer - 2:20
- Max 2: Michael Kubiak - 2:26
- Max 3: Patrick LaMontagne - 2:31
- Tuner 4: Nicholas Zelisko - 2:37
- Tuner 5: Ryan Carwile - 2:45
- Sport 1: Jacob Glover - 2:22
- Sport 2: John Li - 2:28
- Sport 3: Tony Macchi - 2:36
- Sport 4: Jonathan Crane - 2:38
- Unlimited 1: Keenan Prusank - 2:25
- Unlimited 2: Aaron Stehly - 2:33
- CSM: Trevor Kindlon - 2:38
Class Fun
Forrer’s Ferrari 488 may have the record, but it was a narrow victory – both on a single lap and for the Max 1 class title. Nicholas Hendrix was just four tenths off Forrer’s record on Sunday, and missed the class win by a total of 1.985sec. Perhaps as it should be, Max 1 cars held four of the top five overall spots, with Jacob Glover’s Sport 1 Corvette in third, the lone holdout followed by Dallas Reed’s Corvette and Paul Ough’s Mustang.
With wide open throttle and hard braking zones along with several technical corners, Road America is not an easy place to learn, so improvements from day one to day two deserve shoutouts.
Bryan Tippens knocked 2.5sec off of his best Saturday to his best Sunday in a Sport 2 Hyundai Ioniq 5. Chad Culver, in the same class, pulled 2.5sec out of his best day-to-day in a Chevrolet Camaro.
Jeffrey Kubiak, however, may have been king of the course when it came to improvement. He lowered his best time from a 2:41.3 to a 2:37.7 from Saturday to Sunday, upping the speed of his Corvette dramatically.

Extra Awards
It’s not all about speed at a Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge event – we’re always on the lookout for those who embody the fun and the love of the sport.
The Spirit of Time Trials award at Road America was presented to Dallas Reed. Phil Jue was experiencing issues with his car (a V8 swapped 350Z) and needed a new throttle body. Dallas went to his trailer and handed Phil a new one so Phil could get back in the action, displaying the Time Attack generosity that the event holds.
The Champion of Time Trials is not the overall quickest driver, but rather an award for those who champion the cause of Time Attack. At Road America, this award went to Greg Van Dalen. Road America’s track manager every day, Van Dalen was a participant at this event – he and his staff have proven to be a true partner in helping making Time Attack Challenge events a success.
There was also Fastest Chassis competition to be had, with those awards going to Tony Machi (fastest front-wheel drive), Dallas Reed (fastest all-wheel drive), and Steve Forrer (fastest rear-wheel drive).
The Next One
Next up on the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack calendar is a trip south to Eagles Canyon Raceway for the May 3-4, 2025, weekend. Perhaps not as high profile as Road America, Eagles Canyon has proven to be a superb test of driving skill. Register for this event today!
